We absolutely love to hear how our donations of Tates Garden Centres plants to schools are flourishing and in this case, used in scientific experiments with the children! Thank you so much for sharing and well done to the children.

Emma Taylor, 3T Class teacher from The Windmills Junior school in Hassocks kindly shared their learning experiences:

First, we tried growing beans on wet paper towel and in compost to see which worked best. We also set up experiments to see the separate effects of water, light and soil by varying the quantities. This encouraged the children to work scientifically and make observations over time and to set up fair experiments by controlling variables one at a time. (The orange marigold you see here is still flowering magnificently!)

Next, we used the marigolds and petunias to practise our observational drawing. These pictures were taken part way through and the finished examples were beautiful.

Finally, just after the hot half term break, we planted them all outside to create colourful borders and to attract pollinators for us to study in our next science lesson.

Many thanks to you, South Downs Tates Garden centre and the Budding Foundation!
