Victorian Bedding Creation (1869)

I acquired a copy of Carters Practical Gardener for 1869, primarily as it contained a foldout Ransomes & Sims, Automaton Lawnmower advertisement, this being the first edition of the book to use colour printing. In addition to the one colour advertisement, also contained within the book were 26 colour illustrations of flower bed designs used at  Crystal Palace & Battersea together with a list of the plants used. (see below)

Around that time I was considering the following years planting (2013)  to re-place our ‘Olympic Rings’ display, what better challenge than re-creating some of these beds with as near as possible the flowers used 140 years previous!
